The Goodliffe Hall Development Project
When Christ Church reviewed the options for the Goodliffe Hall in 2003, it set its sights on a future for the Hall which would meet not only the Churches aspirations but also those of the neighbourhood. It had to match the ability of the building to provide for the needs of the Church and the community with its ability to make something greater from a review of the buildings future.
It looked initially at what options the building provided, matched these to the work that it saw facilitated by the building, and developed a plan with its appointed architects which successfully received planning permission in early 2008.
Major work was needed to the Goodliffe Hall if the building was to be brought up to modern standards, and the extent of necessary repair work was such that some significant changes would be needed to ensure he building complied with building regulations.
The approved plans are detailed below; click on the Titles for a plan diagram.
Ground Floor Plan
The new ground floor would better integrate the front entrance of Church and Hall, and provide new toilet and catering facilities which would enable better mixed use of the premises. The entrance and all facilities are designed to comply with up to date building requirements. A new crèche area is provided leading from the Church Narthex, and this is expected to start first. This first phase, with the Church Narthex, is hoped to provide usable space whilst major work is carried out to the Goodliffe Hall itself.
First Floor
The new first floor has larger meeting rooms suitable for youth work or society groups. Access is provided via a lift and toilets are available in the stair lobby, where storage is also provided. An office or smaller meeting room completes the provision.
Second Floor
The second floor provides smaller rooms suitable for use as committee rooms, consultation rooms, small meetings or offices. These rooms are expected to be used by start up businesses or one to one consultation rooms and will have office services provided into them. Storage is built into the plan, and again toilets and a lift are accessible on the floor.
